Pinkie Anniversary Countdown

Disamare

E n last July and after a lengthy feasibility study, the British consortium Wind Power Limited (in partnership with Norwegian and American engineers and teams of academic researchers) has just released a giant offshore wind turbine project called "aerogenerators X ". Design, already described as revolutionary, reproduces the shape of the disamare maples whose seeds paired helical can be transported by wind over considerable distances. The facility would have a span of 275m and an installed capacity of 10 MW, almost three times more than conventional offshore wind and it would therefore achieve economies of scale are not negligible.
A u instead of increasing the size of the blades of a horizontal axis wind turbine (and So the weight of the whole structure and mechanical stress that causes), the idea is to concentrate the weight of the turbine at the base of the structure on a horizontal axis. This not only reduces the weight by half compared to a conventional wind turbine, but also to facilitate maintenance. At the same time, the propeller turns at low speed of 3 revolutions per minute (compared to 20 rpm for a horizontal axis wind turbine) and does not depend on wind direction for particular work optimally. A full-scale prototype is planned for 2013-2014. (Read more )
